Sylvie Valayre Concert and Four Days in Washington“ SYLVIE VALAYRE performed a diverse and captivating recital at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue on June 3rd before her last performance TURANDOT at the Washington national Opera under the baton of Maestro Placido Domingo on the 4th The initiative came from the artist herself, who contacted Peace Child Israel’s director via Facebook to offer her support just 2 months before the event. Ms. Valayre’s personal charm, her musical sensitivity and performance skills (which “bewitched” the audience, like the Richard Rodgers song she sang), accompanied by her position of social activism and volunteerism is extraordinary and refreshing”. Israel Embassy Cultural Officer, Deborah Lipnick provided opening remarks and PCI graduates shared their experiences in the program with the audience during a non-musical interlude.
Workshops with Muslim and Jewish Teens in D.C. Area “Organized by the OneBlue organization, headed by Sarah Hasan and John Boyer, PCI graduates Nadim Abbas (Um el-Fahem) and Illy Slutzky (Tel Aviv) lead workshops with Jewish and Muslim teenagers at three Virginia locations: ADAMS (All Dulles Area Muslim Society) ,JCCNVA (Jewish Community Center North Virginia) and at the Ashburn Synagogue. The development of a week-long hosting of Peace Child teens for a deeper group process and joint performances is being considered by the Virginia organizations”.
TCG Conference – Baltimore Hippodrome PCI director, Melisse Lewine-Boskovich was invited to present at a session titled “Theatre in Conflict Zones” at the 3-day TCG (Theatre Communications Group) conference at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore on June 5th. She shared the session with representatives from Sudan, Kosovo and the U.S. organization “Theatre Without Borders”.
